Black Chocolate Shrimp, also known as Caridina cf. cantonensis var. Black Diamond or Black Crystal Shrimp, are a selectively bred freshwater shrimp species that have a dark black coloration with a chocolate brown undertone. They are a popular choice for aquarium enthusiasts due to their unique appearance and relative ease of care.

Black Chocolate Shrimp require specific water parameters to thrive, including a pH range of 6.0-7.5, a temperature range of 68-78°F, and soft to moderately hard water with a low to moderate total dissolved solids (TDS) level. They prefer a planted tank with hiding places and moderate water flow.

In terms of diet, Black Chocolate Shrimp are omnivorous and will feed on algae, detritus, and commercial shrimp pellets. They may also benefit from supplemental feedings of blanched vegetables and live or frozen foods.

Black Chocolate Shrimp are peaceful and non-aggressive, making them suitable for community aquariums. They are also prolific breeders, and a healthy colony can quickly populate a tank if conditions are favorable. However, they may become prey to larger fish, so it's important to keep them with small and peaceful tankmates.
