The Blue Rainbow, also known as Melanotaenia praecox, is a stunning and popular freshwater fish species that originates from New Guinea. They are a great choice for intermediate to advanced aquarists due to their unique requirements and behavior.

Blue Rainbows are relatively small, with a maximum size of 2 inches, and require a minimum tank size of 20 gallons. They are active swimmers and appreciate plenty of hiding places, live plants, and open swimming areas. They are also peaceful and can be kept with other small, peaceful species.

These omnivores will eat a variety of foods, including flakes, pellets, and small pieces of vegetables. It's important to provide a balanced diet to ensure they receive all the necessary nutrients for optimal health.

The Blue Rainbow's unique characteristic is their stunning blue and green iridescent coloration, which shimmers in the light. They also have a yellowish or orange tail fin, and the males may have a more pronounced dorsal fin.
