The Desjardini Tang, also known as the Sailfin Tang or Pacific Sailfin Tang, is a beautiful and popular saltwater fish that is sure to catch the eye of any aquarium enthusiast. These fish are native to the Indo-Pacific region and are known for their striking coloration and sail-like dorsal fin.

 

The Desjardini Tang is a large fish, with an average size of 12-15 inches when fully grown. They are peaceful fish and can be kept in a community tank with other non-aggressive species, but may become territorial towards other tangs or fish with similar body shape or coloration.

 

These fish are herbivores and require a diet rich in seaweed and algae. They will also accept high-quality pellet and flake foods that contain vegetable matter.

 

In terms of tank requirements, the Desjardini Tang requires a minimum tank size of 125 gallons. They prefer a well-lit tank with plenty of swimming space and hiding places. A heater and protein skimmer are also necessary to maintain a stable environment.

 

Water parameters for the Desjardini Tang should be maintained as follows:

  • pH: 8.1-8.4
  • Calcium: 400-450 ppm
  • Alkalinity: 2.5-4.2 meq/L
  • Nitrate: <10 ppm
  • Temperature: 72-78°F
