The Giant Kuhli Loach (Pangio myersi), also known as the Giant Coolie Loach, is a larger relative of the common Kuhli Loach, reaching up to 5 inches in length. Native to slow-moving streams and rivers in Southeast Asia, they thrive in aquariums with soft, sandy substrate and plenty of hiding places such as driftwood, rocks, and dense plants. These nocturnal bottom-dwellers are peaceful and best kept in groups of 5 or more, where they will display natural schooling behaviors. They prefer clean, slightly acidic to neutral water and benefit from subdued lighting and shaded areas. Their diet should consist of sinking pellets, algae wafers, and live or frozen foods such as bloodworms and brine shrimp. With proper care and stable conditions, they are hardy, long-lived, and excellent additions to community aquariums with other small, non-aggressive fish.
