The Green Phantom Pleco, scientifically known as Hemiancistrus subviridis, is a stunning and sought-after freshwater fish species that adds a touch of beauty and elegance to any aquarium. With its vibrant green coloration and distinctive appearance, the Green Phantom Pleco is a favorite among aquarists.


The Green Phantom Pleco showcases a magnificent emerald green body color, which is accented by a series of dark spots or bands running horizontally along its body. These striking markings create a visually captivating display that is sure to impress. They typically grow to a size of around 6-8 inches, making them suitable for medium to larger-sized aquariums.


Known for their peaceful nature, Green Phantom Plecos are suitable for community tanks with compatible tank mates. They appreciate a well-aquascaped aquarium with plenty of hiding spots provided by caves, driftwood, or rock formations. Providing a moderate water flow and high-quality water conditions is important for their well-being.


Feeding the Green Phantom Pleco is relatively easy as they are omnivorous. They will readily accept a variety of foods, including high-quality sinking pellets, algae wafers, vegetable matter, and occasional live or frozen foods such as bloodworms or brine shrimp. It is beneficial to include some driftwood in the tank, as they will graze on the wood for supplemental nutrition.
