Japanese Ricefish Red & White
The Japanese Ricefish (also known as Oryzias latipes), with its Red & White variant, is a hardy and vibrant freshwater fish, admired for its unique color pattern of pearly white with red accents. This variety is a captivating addition to any peaceful community tank, and their petite size makes them suitable for nano aquariums.
These fish typically reach an adult size of around 1.5 inches.
Japanese Ricefish are peaceful and sociable, and they do best in groups of at least six to create a sense of security and encourage natural behavior. A tank of 10 gallons or more is ideal for a small group. This species is native to Japan and other parts of East Asia, often found in ponds, rice paddies, and slow-moving streams.
These ricefish are considered easy to care for, making them suitable for beginners. They are omnivores and can thrive on a varied diet of high-quality flakes, micro-pellets, and occasional live or frozen foods like brine shrimp and daphnia.
