The L191 Broken Line Royal Pleco (Panaque nigrolineatus variant) is a striking South American catfish known for its dark body patterned with broken cream or tan lines. Growing up to 15–17 inches, this pleco requires a very spacious aquarium of at least 125 gallons with strong filtration and good water flow to mimic its natural riverine environment. Like other Panaque, it is a true wood-eater and must have a constant supply of driftwood, both for rasping and digestion, alongside a diet of sinking algae wafers, fresh vegetables (zucchini, cucumber, peas), and occasional protein-rich foods. The Broken Line Royal Pleco prefers soft to moderately hard, slightly acidic to neutral water, with high oxygen levels and excellent water quality. Though generally peaceful, it can be territorial with other plecos, so provide multiple hiding spaces. With proper care, this long-lived species can thrive for over a decade in captivity.
