The Longfin Danio (Danio rerio var. longfin) is a beautiful variation of the popular Zebra Danio, characterized by its longer, flowing fins, making it a striking addition to any aquarium. These hardy, active fish are easy to care for and thrive in community tanks. They prefer 10–20 gallon aquariums with moderate filtration and plenty of swimming space. The ideal water temperature for Longfin Danios is between 22–28°C (72–82°F), with a pH range of 6.5–7.5, and moderately hard water (4–12 dGH). They are omnivores and enjoy a varied diet, including high-quality flakes or pellets, frozen/live brine shrimp, daphnia, and blanched vegetables like spinach or zucchini. Longfin Danios are social fish and should be kept in groups of at least 6–8 to minimize stress and encourage natural schooling behavior. They do well with peaceful tank mates like neon tetras, rasboras, and small catfish such as Corydoras. With their striking appearance, peaceful temperament, and easy care requirements, Longfin Danios are an excellent choice for both beginner and experienced aquarists.
