The Flameback Angelfish, also known as the African Pygmy Angelfish, is a small and colorful saltwater fish that is native to the waters around East Africa. These fish are known for their striking coloration, making them a popular addition to any saltwater aquarium.
The Flameback Angelfish has a maximum size of about 3 inches and requires a tank of at least 30 gallons. They are generally peaceful but can become territorial towards other angelfish or fish with similar body shape or coloration. It is recommended to keep only one per tank, or with a group of females.
These fish are omnivores and require a varied diet that includes high-quality flakes, pellets, frozen or live food. They can also be fed with Spirulina and algae-based foods to maintain their vivid coloration.
In terms of tank requirements, the Flameback Angelfish prefers a well-lit tank with plenty of swimming space and hiding places. A heater and protein skimmer are also necessary to maintain a stable environment.
Water parameters for the Flameback Angelfish should be maintained as follows:
- pH: 8.1-8.4
- Calcium: 400-450 ppm
- Alkalinity: 2.5-4.2 meq/L
- Nitrate: <10 ppm
