The Silver Hatchetfish, scientifically known as Gasteropelecus sternicla, is an exquisite and graceful freshwater fish species that adds a touch of elegance to any aquarium. With its unique shape and shimmering silver coloration, the Silver Hatchetfish is a popular choice among aquarists.

The Silver Hatchetfish features a slender, elongated body with a distinct hatchet-like shape. Its silver scales reflect light, creating a beautiful and eye-catching display. They have large pectoral fins that resemble wings, allowing them to glide effortlessly near the water's surface. These hatchetfish typically grow to a size of around 2-3 inches.

Known for their peaceful nature, Silver Hatchetfish are great additions to community tanks. They prefer to swim near the water's surface, so it's important to provide a well-covered tank with minimal water movement to prevent them from jumping. They appreciate a heavily planted aquarium with floating plants that provide shade and cover.

Feeding the Silver Hatchetfish is relatively easy as they are omnivorous. They primarily feed on small insects and insect larvae in their natural habitat. In the aquarium, they readily accept a variety of foods, including high-quality flakes, small pellets, and occasional live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp or daphnia.
